Fishing Alaska's Kenai Peninsula
Fishing in Alaska is year round passion.
May
Starting in May we gear up for early run King Salmon and monster Halibut. The largest King Salmon ever (over 97 pounds) was caught in May on the Kenai River. Ten of the largest salmon ever have come from the Kenai. Combo trips for Salmon and Halibut also happen in May and early June on the Cook Inlet.
June
In June we start catching King Salmon on the Kenai and the Kasilof Rivers. They’re also are Sockeye Salmon (Reds) appearing in the rivers, which can be caught from the shore without a boat.
July
July is when the largest run of King Salmon arrives on the Kenai River. 30-50 pound fish are common place, with an occasional 70 to 80 pounder showing up. Sockeye Salmon (Reds) also appear in mass on the Kenai. Huge schools of salmon migrate up the river, allowing bank fishermen (and women) ample opportunity to catch fish 'till your arms fall off!
August - October
August is the beginning of Silver Salmon season. These bright, chrome, hard fighting fish are a blast to catch in either fresh or salt water. Fishing for Silver Salmon goes on clear into October. But let’s not forget our Rainbow Trout and Dolly Varden Trout fishing on the upper Kenai. These catch and release bows are huge and plentiful, following the salmon as they spawn.
